The 2nd WiN Europe Regional Event brings together WiN chapters, nuclear professionals, industry leaders and partners from across Europe for three days of exchange, collaboration and forward-looking dialogue.

Hosted by WiN Switzerland in cooperation with WiN Europe and WiN Global, the 2026 edition will focus on strengthening European cooperation, advancing women’s leadership in the nuclear sector, and shaping the future of nuclear energy in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.

Programme

The 2nd WiN Europe Regional Event is built around two main days, with an optional third day dedicated to technical tours of nuclear facilities and research institutions.

The official programme brings together WiN chapters, nuclear professionals and partners from across Europe to strengthen collaboration, promote women’s leadership, and engage in forward-looking dialogue on the future of nuclear energy.

The 2nd WiN Europe Regional Event opens with welcome remarks by Uta Naumann, President of WiN Switzerland, and Melina Belinco, President of WiN Global, as well as a video message from IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi.

This session explores global, European and Swiss perspectives on a secure, low-emission and affordable electricity supply. Aline des Cloizeaux of the IAEA will present the global nuclear perspective. Dr Martina Adorni of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) will then present “Enabling Nuclear Safety Research: Opportunities Through NEA WGAMA and Joint Projects”. Further contributions will be followed by a debate on the challenges of translating key findings into practice. The session will be moderated by Stephanie Bos, Axpo.

This session explores how European countries are pursuing different paths towards a nuclear future. Aleksandra Kotlewska, Manager Risk & Reliability at NRG PALLAS and President of Women in Nuclear Netherlands, will present the Netherlands’ future energy landscape, including the potential role of small modular reactors (SMRs). Further country perspectives will follow.

This session combines insights into major nuclear projects with professional perspectives on leadership and company initiatives to strengthen the role of women in the sector. Patricia Cuadrado Garcia, Proposal Manager at Westinghouse Electric Company, will provide insights into new AP1000 reactor projects, with further contributions to follow.

The panel will explore how communication influences public trust, political decision-making and the successful implementation of nuclear projects. The discussion will bring together Irene Aegerter, physicist and founder of WiN Switzerland; Dr Christine Strandmose Toft, independent Danish researcher and author specialising in the cultural history and social perception of nuclear power, and Consultant at PwC Denmark; Tea Törmänen, Head of Global Development at WePlanet; Floriske Deutman, international strategy consultant and communications expert; and Jessica Johnson, Communications & Advocacy Director at nucleareurope.

Day 3 offers optional programmes providing insight into the Swiss nuclear sector and the surrounding region. Participants will be able to choose between different technical and cultural visits.

All tours are scheduled to return to Baden by approximately 16:00 to facilitate onward travel planning. Separate registration is required and capacity is limited.

Dr. Martina Adorni

Nuclear Safety Specialist @ OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA)

Nuclear Engineer & Safety Specialis As a Nuclear Safety Specialist, Dr. Martina Adorni, provides expert technical support to working groups focused on accident analysis, management, and safety research as well as to nuclear safety joint projects. She holds a PhD in Nuclear and Industrial Safety obtained at the University of Pisa (Italy). Her research focused on accident analysis in research reactors and the development of a methodology for the analysis of fuel behavior during accident conditions in nuclear power plants.

Ann Jessica Johnson

Communications & Advocacy Director @ nucleareurope.eu

Expert in EU Public Affairs & Communications Jessica Johnson holds a Bachelor in Modern Languages and a Master’s in Conference Interpreting. As Communications & Advocacy Director at nucleareurope seh developes communication strategies, organises events and liaises with EU stakeholders such as the European Parliament, trade unions and NGOs. She also handles sustainability policy issues, including sustainable finance, the EU taxonomy and the circular economy. In addition, she works to ensure the nuclear sector has access to a skilled workforce by making nuclear an attractive career choice for younger generations.

Christine Strandmose Toft

Consultant @ PwC Denmark

Consultant, independent researcher, and writer Dr. Christine Strandmose Toft is a Danish consultant, independent researcher and writer whose work focuses on the cultural history and social perception of nuclear power. She combines humanities research with contemporary issues related to the energy transition, sustainability, and resource management. She also works as a consultant at PwC Denmark, where she advises clients in the energy, utilities, and resources sectors.

Tea Törmänen

Head of Global Development @ WePlanet

Biologist, Nuclear Advocate and Pro-Science Environmentalist Tea Törmänen is a biologist working as Head of Global Development at WePlanet. She has been with WePlanet since day one, leading the Finnish chapter for four years before expanding her work internationally. As a member of the Finnish Green Party and a proud nuclear advocate, she challenges the notion that environmentalists can’t support nuclear energy.

Location

The 2nd WiN Europe Regional Event will take place at the Trafo Hallen in Baden.

Baden is approximately 40 minutes by train from Zurich Airport and iand is well connected to major Swiss cities, including Zurich and Bern.. Its proximity to key Swiss nuclear facilities makes it a suitable location for this year’s meeting and the optional technical visits.

The venue is directly connected to a hotel. Additional accommodation options are available in Baden as well as in nearby Brugg and Aarau, all easily accessible by public transport.
